Megan Hertel

Coach Megan is the Head Girls Water Polo Coach for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Girls levels at Del Oro High School as well as an assistant Swim Coach. During her time as a high school coach her teams have had three CIF-SJS semi-final appearances.


Coach Megan was raised in Penryn, CA. She played many different sports growing up including Soccer, Baseball, Volleyball and Basketball. She began playing water polo in 8th Grade and made the Varsity team as a Sophomore at Del Oro High School. She was a triple Varsity athlete participating in Water Polo, Basketball and Swimming from 2009-2011. Her water polo team was the first in school history for the water polo program to beat Granite Bay as well as win a Sierra Foothill League championship. Her basketball team was top four in the State, runner ups in CIFSJS Championship Game and were undefeated SFL Champions. She also swam on the rec swim team Loomis Basin Dolphins and played club Basketball and was a member of Sacramento Water Polo Club from 2009-2010 traveling with the JO’s teams at the 16U and 18U levels.


After High School Coach Megan moved to Huntington Beach to attend Golden West College where she played Water Polo and Swam. During her time as Rustler the program had a record of 81-5, going undefeated during the 2012 and 2013 seasons and winning the CCCAA State Championship back to back. In swimming the program won the state championship in 2012.


After Golden West she transferred to Concordia University in Irvine where she majored in Education with a minor in Coaching. She started her coaching career at Woodrow Wilson High School in the winter of 2013 where her JV and Frosh/Soph teams both won Moore League. She has also coached at Huntington Beach High School, Golden West College, Huntington Beach Water Polo Club and is also currently the Girls Water Polo Program Director for Sacramento Water Polo Club.
