Del Oro overcomes 27-15 deficit to beat Folsom 34-30

Folsom, CA- Del Oro edged out Folsom 34-30 in league action, improving their record to 3-0 on the season and dropping the Bulldogs to 2-1.. Despite having starters Christian Perez and Breyden Rush out due to injury, Del Oro was able to win 8 of the 14 matches. The match started at 145 lbs and Del Oro elected to bump their 138, 145, and 152 lb wrestlers up from their normal competition. At 145 lbs Logan Banks decisioned Ryland Smith, 152 lbs Chino Igarashi decisioned Preston McAnich 5-1, and at 160 lbs Wyatt Alexander decisioned Luke Supple 12-5 to give Del Oro a 9-0 lead. However, Folsom came back and quickly pinned the next three Del Oro wrestlers to give the Bulldogs an 18-9 advantage. Kainoa Acia moveded up to 220 and pinned Alec Coffin to narrow the gap 18-15 but Folsom'sEnzo Mezoui pinned Soren Gammelgard at HWT to make it a wash. Coming back around in the weight order 108 lbs Kam Rush started out strong against Kai Yi-Berg but Yi-Berg controlled the tempo of the match in the second and third rounds to score an 8-3 decision. Del Oro was now down 27-15 with five matches left. In the 113 lb match Siraj Sidhu moved up from 106 lbs to take on Elias Rivera, currently ranked #26 at that weight. Sidhu quickly set the tone for the match, finishing the first round ahead 9-1. Sidhu racked up 8 more points in the next two rounds to score five team points via a 17-1 tech fall. At 120 lbs Jamison French was down 10-0 against Angelo Cruz going into the third round but was able to score an escape and a takedown with 15 seconds left to make the final score 10-3 and prevent Folsom from scoring the major decision. At the next two weights Del Oro wrestlers Issac Herrera and Jagger French both scored major decisions (9-1 and 16-5 respectively) to make the team score 30-28 Folsom going into the final match at 138 lbs between Eli Honsa and Timmy Brand. Honsa pinned Brand in the second round, giving Del Oro six team points and the 34-30 win.
Next up for the Varsity team is the Battle for Belt Tournament in Temecula Valley the weekend followed by a home match against Granite Bay next Wednesday.
