Lodi, CA- Del Oro wrestled at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 Tournament at Tokay High this weekend, finishing first ahead of SFL rival Folsom and Delta League powerhouse Elk Grove. Folsom won the D1 title in 2022 while Del Oro won it in 2020 and 2019. With 184 lb wrestler Austin Wuerthner out due to injury the rest of the Del Oro team had to score bonus points in their wins to overcome Folsom’s full lineup. Del Oro trailed Folsom in team points going into the semifinal round but the Eagles advanced 6 of 9 wrestlers to the finals to take a one point lead over the Bulldogs. In the championship round Del Oro went 5 for 6, including three wins by bonus points, to finish out with a 9 point lead over Folsom and win the Division 1 pennant. 108 lbs Siraj Sidhu, 128 lbs Issac Herrera, and 197 lbs Kainoa Acia rampaged through their weight classes, racking up 9 pins, 2 technical falls, and 1 major decision between the three of them.
Del Oro advanced 11 of their 13 wrestlers to the Masters Tournament next weekend in Stockton. The Top 6 wrestlers in each weight class then advance to the State Tournament and the conclusion of the regular season.
