Del Oro went 1-1 at the Sac-Joaquin Section Team Dual Tournament this weekend. The team started off as the #3 seed in a highly competitive bracket of Vacaville, Oakdale, Turlock, Folsom, Elk Grove, St. Mary’s, and Sheldon. Del Oro matched up against #6 Elk Grove in the first round. Del Oro had lost to Elk Grove In the last two outings (30-24 in 2016 and 37-22 in 2018) but won 12 of 14 matches this time to take a 49-7 win and advance to the semifinals against Oakdale. Unfortunately, Oakdale came out strong and won the first eight matches before 108 lb Siraj Sidhu scored the first team points with a 17-2 tech fall over Ezekiel Hernandez. Oakdale won 52-20 and advanced to the finals where they defeated Vacaville 40-25 for the championship.
Next up is the beginning of the post season. SFL Championships are at Oak Ridge HS on Saturday. JV will complete their season and top 6 in each varsity weight class will advance to the Sac Joaquin Section Division 1 Tournament.
