Annual Rock the Stadium scrimmage, concert draws 1,000-plus at Del Oro

Football is more than a sport in Loomis.

To many, Del Oro High School football games are a family outing and community affair, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that more than 1,000 fans flocked to Golden Eagle Stadium on Friday night for the fifth annual Rock the Stadium and Black and Gold Scrimmage.

It offered fans a first glimpse of the Golden Eagles this season, a team that figures to compete for Sierra Foothill League and Sac-Joaquin Section championships.

The football and cheer programs were honored throughout the night, from the mighty mites up through varsity, including the newly established girls flag football team, which received an enthusiastic welcome from the crowd.

The black and gold squads duked it out in front of a packed house, including a rowdy black hole, as the Del Oro faithful cheered their hometown team. Quarterback Caden Pinnick showed off his arm, connecting on three touchdowns for the gold team. Running back/linebacker Robert Garcia had a strong performance, scoring a touchdown for the black team.

Pinnick spoke about his performance and how he expects the Golden Eagles to play, saying, “Other teams don't know what we've been through and what we go through as a team and how hard we have worked to get here. We have a lot of talent on the team who I pray will stay healthy. If we can do that, we are definitely one of the top teams.”

Following the scrimmage, The Ripoffs, an 80s tribute band, rocked the stadium for the fans to ring in the new season.
