DEL ORO TAKES 2ND OUT OF 91 TEAMS AT SIERRA NEVADA CLASSIC

Del Oro takes 2nd out of 91 teams at Sierra Nevada Classic

Reno, NV- Del Oro took 2nd place out of 91 teams at the Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno, finishing behind Oakdale HS and squeaking past 3rd place Tahoma HS (Tahoma, WA) by one point. Del Oro was led by first place finishes from Siraj Sidhu (113 lbs) and Jagger French (144 lbs). In the finals match Sidhu fell behind 5-0 to 3A Washington State champion Czar Quintanilla (University HS, WA) but put in a yeoman effort to regain control of the match, scoring 14 unanswered points to win the 14-5 major decision. French defeated 4A Washington State runner up Joe Sullivan (Tahoma HS) to cap off a 7-0 run at the tournament. Nate Mitchell (106 lbs) punched his ticket to the finals with a 5-3 OT win in the semifinals against CJ Saiz (Aztec HS, NM) but fell In the finals 5-1 to Crew Lambro (Tahoma HS). Wyatt Alexander (3rd, 157 lbs) and Christian Perez (4th, 120 lbs) rounded out the Del Oro place winners, with both wrestlers losing in the quarterfinals but peeling off three more wins to wrestle for 3rd place.
Next up for Del Oro varsity and JV is the first home match against Rocklin HS on Wednesday January 3rd. JV will wrestle at 6:00 pm and will be followed by varsity.
